Mary White, RN, BSN
A member of Dr. White’s staff since 2000, Mary has been a long-standing member of the Omaha Gastric Bypass team. She received her BSN from University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1988. Mary arranges support groups and monthly patient meetings centered around healthy living.
Angie Connors, PA-C
Angie is a Physician’s Assistant who has been working with Dr. White’s team since 1997. She received her Master’s from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1996. Angie assists both Dr. White in surgical procedures and offers support to patients throughout their weight loss journeys.In addition to participating in the surgical process, she also assists in pre- and post-op support and medical care.
Cora Villagomez, MSN, APRN, FNP-C
Cora joined our team in February 2010. She received her bachelor of science in nursing as well as her masters of science in nursing at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She is now currently working in the program as the Bariatric Nurse Practitioner. She has other experience working in non-surgical weight management with a focus on behavior modification. Additional past experience includes working in the ER, being a personal trainer and teaching fitness classes. She has a passion in coaching patients how to transform their behaviors to improve the quality of their lives.
Chelsea Gauer, RD, LMNT, CDE
Chelsea has been a registered dietitian for 5 years, graduating from Minnesota State University with her Bachelor of Science, then subsequently the University of Nebraska Medical Center where she received her dietetic training. Chelsea has been with the CHI Health Weight Management team for the last 4 years in a variety of roles including certified diabetes educator, yoga instructor, and most recently bariatric surgery dietitian.
Dawn Hansen, MS, RD, LMNT
Dawn is a registered dietitian and bariatric surgery coordinator for the CHI Health Weight Management Program. Dawn has been a registered dietitian since 2008 and her past experience includes, clinical dietitian, diabetes educator, as well as business development and marketing.
April Smith, PharmD, MA, BCPS
I completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska in May 2003 with a double major in Biology and Spanish. I then attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and received my Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May 2007. I completed a one-year post-graduate pharmacy practice residency at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska and started my career there as a surgery specialty pharmacist. In August of 2009, I came back to Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions and am currently as Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice. At my current practice site, Immanuel Medical Center, I take both pharmacy students and residents on my acute care rotation. My specialties include bariatric surgery, orthopedic surgery, and general hospital medicine. I am responsible for optimizing our bariatric surgery patients’ medication regimens perioperatively, providing discharge education, and updating medication related portions of our order sets and protocols. I have been a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) since 2010 and am very active on several committees within the organization including the Clinical Guidelines Committee. For the last five years I have been course coordinator for the Pharmacology section at Obesity Week (annual national meeting of ASMBS and The Obesity Society), presenting on a variety of topics from drug absorption challenges post-bariatric surgery to optimizing perioperative care of the bariatric surgery patient.
